LAMAZE AND PRENATAL AND POSTNATAL CLASSES

Dr.

Vijaya Krishnan has a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and is a

board-certified clinical specialist, with 14 years experience in the

US. She is a member of Lamaze International and an active member of the

Women's Health section of the American Physical Therapy Association

(APTA).

Dr. Vijaya conducts workshops, weekend programs, and classes

for would-be mothers on Natural Childbirth, Breathing Exercises, Natural ways of pain relief (how to

minimize back pains, etc), specific techniques on breathing and

relaxation during labor, massages, comfort positions to make labor progress

easier, breastfeeding, and neo-natal care for the baby and post-partum

care for the new mother. The Healthy

Mother programs are designed in a way to promote natural childbirth,

free of most external medical interventions in in healthy mothers. The programs follow Lamaze International's recommended care practices and WHO guidelines for natural, and healthy childbirth.

In

addition the program also provides labor support, during actual labor,

and helps new moms deal with the experience of caring for their baby

during the crucial first days. The program also leads new

mothers through a set of gentle exercise regimes that strengthen and

tone hip, thigh and leg muscles and help moms return to fitness in the

most appropriate time frame.

Family / spouse involvement is

encouraged during the sessions. The courses deliver training using

hands-on techniques and visual aids to give participants

a complete understanding of the childbirth process and provides

scientific information to empower would-be-moms to give birth with

confidence.

The Healthy Mother program facilitates

mother-to-mother interactions among participants for sharing

experiences, information and concerns and ensures physical and

psychological wellbeing of mother-to-be throughout their pregnancy and

after. Each batch has a maximum of 6 couples so as to facilitate personal attention.

The program is conducted at 4 centers in Hyderabad.
